For a 2006 BMW 530i, when you change the brake pads do you also have to change the brake sensor? I did not change the rotors because they were fine. |

The answer is yes, for model years 04-09 530 series if your brake warning light illuminated it means the pad sensor has worn down, and without replacement you wont be able to reset the service indicator. Now you purchase the pads from a BMW dealer they would sell you the sensor with the pads. If you purchase aftermarket brakes and install them, in most cases the brake sensor light remains illuminated, meaning you will have to go and purchase the sensor. You might pay a little more for OE pads but its less hassle in the end.
