How do you change rear brake pads How do you change rear brake pads |
Answer 1/1 - Submitted 6/26/2009
That depends on what type of caliper you have.
Some have an emergency brake set up in them, that is actuated by a worm gear. These pistons require a specialized tool to twist them back into the caliper. These are usually denoted by a springloaded lever mounted to the caliper for the E-brake.
If there is an emergency brake set inside of a drum on the rear wheel, with the rotor outboard of it, all you need to do is push the piston back.
Always remember to open the bleeder when pushing pistons back, as you do not want to push dirty fluid back up through an ABS system.
