Squishy Brakes

1993 Ford Ranger, 6 cyl, 2WD

I just changed out the brake rotors, calipers and brake pads on my truck. I tried bleeding and servicing the brakes but they are still squishy, I can't figure out what is wrong. They tighten up when i pump them and the car is off, but when I turn it on they get squishy again. What do I do?

Hi,
How are the brake hoses?
Did you ever change them?

No, I have not changed the lines, but I checked for leaks and couldn't find any. Also the fluid in the Brake Fluid Reservoir isn't going down, So, I don't think its a leak.

Actually check it over good, check all the hoses and lines, make sure you don't have any Rusted lines, they can leak and not leak on the ground the fluid gets caught up in the frame and dirt soaks it up and also the cross member under the engine is a good hide out for a bad line.

If you have Rear Drums on it make sure they are adjusted up and you don't have weepy cylinders.

Also your Master Cylinder can do this, but check everything else first, people will run out and get a master without checking everything else and getting a master for nothing.

Also always bleed the brakes at the farthest bleeder to the nearest to the master, rr,lr,rf,lf.

And also always bleed at the bleeder, if you break one off or strip one you can't just crack and bleed a brake line.

Awesome, thank you. I'll look into that.
